OVERVIEW

The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs that lie on the sides of the upper part of tummy (abdomen), behind the intestines, and either sides of the spine. Each kidney contains approximately one million filtering units called nephrons and weighs about 142 grams. Glomerulus and a tubule are parts of Neuphron. The glomerulus is a miniature filtering or sieving device while the tubule is a tiny tube like structure attached to the glomerulus.

The liquids remain after filtering is called urine and is stored in the bladder. This stored urine is passed out in the toilet.

FUNCTIONS OF KIDNEY
